My Work
The following provides highlights of my recent work involving brand positioning and strategic messaging.
Special Skills
I am a certified yoga instructor with professional experience leading flow and power vinyasa yoga classes. Following my 200-hour yoga teacher training, I began my first full time teaching role at CorePower Yoga, the largest yoga chain in the U.S. I led classes uniquely tailored for beginner students as well as advanced practitioners. My most rewarding teaching role was at the Phoenix House Austin, a residential drug and alcohol treatment center for adolescent boys. Prior to the Phoenix House Austin’s closure in September 2023, I led a weekly class for teen boys that focused on yoga foundations and breathing techniques. In addition to developing my decade long personal practice, I enjoy learning about the philosophy of yoga. My heartfelt desire as an instructor is to empower my students to nurture their physical, mental, and spiritual health both on and off of their mats.
Yoga Instructor
I donate my time to causes I am passionate about. I ran a volunteer program for several years at the Austin State Hospital, a state-owned inpatient psychiatric facility. Our group’s work supported psycho-social programming to foster independence and recovery among inpatients. I received the Community Leader Award in 2012 for my efforts there. Years later, I was a “Reach Out and Read” volunteer at the People’s Community Clinic in Austin, which provides affordable health care services to uninsured and medically underserved Austinites. I read in English and Spanish to children in the patient waiting room. Reach Out and Read is a national early literacy organization that works with pediatric providers to promote the benefits that result from families reading aloud to their children every day.
Community Engagement
As an undergraduate, I served a research assistant in a developmental behavior genetics lab. We studied data from twins and other multiples to understand how genetic and environmental factors contribute to risk-taking behaviors in adolescents. As an RA, I collected saliva and hair samples, administered and scored the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence and a battery of assays, and compiled and analyzed participant data.
